Italian architectural print , after Pironessi. 19th Century.
Excellent architectural print by the renowned Italian artist Giovanni-Batisti Piranesi. The buildings are superbly rendered and the print is full of characters and movement. Plaque in a left "Avanti della Villa di Mecenate a Tivoli, costruita di travertini a opera incerta. A. Capitello il solo rimasto intero. B. Avanti d'intonico dipinto a minio. Piranesi." Piranesi 1720*-1778, Italian Original.

Pair of colored prints of architectiral designs after Pergolesi. Each depicting various design for ceilings and walls in polychrome on various colors, giltwood frames, each plate bearing description Pergolesi inv. Sculpt & Published according to Act of Parliament – 20th March 1785.1200
Pergolesi, Michelangelo (circa 1760-1801), a noted designer of decorative ornament who was active in Italy and, after 1770, in England, where he was employed by Robert Adam. Pergolesi published his series entitled ‘Design for Various Ornaments, etc.’ in fourteen parts, between 1771 and 1801. It is from these prints derive. This lot also allows one to see how greatly influenced Pergolesi was by the grotesques of Rafael and others Etruscan models as well as the incorporation of fanciful animals into filigreed constructions.
